Middleweight campaigner
Update: April 2009

I have had a very difficult last few months but I am finally back and competing again and feeling better than ever.

Whilst winning the senior ABA championships I suffered a SLAP lesion tear in my left shoulder in the quarter finals, instead of pulling out I was determined to carry on and win the ABA championships which I did although it made the injury worse. I had an operation in September to fix my shoulder which meant I had to endure a painful rehabilitation. The surgeon said I wouldn’t be able to throw a proper punch in 6 months which would have been March this year (2009), however I was determined to box in the ABA's again this year and retain my title. So thanks to some great physio and hard work I managed to turn the 6 months into 4 months and I am currently in the ABA's. I have had two fights so far both ending in knock out victories; I am in the pre-quarterfinal stage of the championships where I am taking on the home counties champion before the quarterfinal stage starts proper.

As my final was in May of last year it meant I was out of the ring for 10 months which was horrible. In the lay off i was forced to move up in weight category from welterweight 69kg to middleweight 75kg because without being able to train or compete it made my natural weight move up to around 82kg so losing 13kg to make 69kg would be impossible so I'm now campaigning at middleweight. It usually takes boxers a while to 'acclimatise' to a new weight but I'm currently feeling great and hoping to win consecutive championships at two weights.
